Whenever I'm on the West Coast and I need a treatment for my troublesome sinuses, I call Heidi. She's a terrific, skilled acupuncturist who is also a delightful person. If someone is going to stick needles in my face, I want it to be someone with Heidi's professionalism and kindness. I highly recommend Heidi and her work.” July 4, 2007

" I've been seeing Heidi for about six months and have never felt better. The most important things for me in seeing a doctor is that they are consistent and that I don't have to remind them who I am every time I visit them. Heidi is so personable, she remembers everything from the week before or six months before! That is rare. Heidi isn't just available during your appointment, she is available through email when you have questions. She is creative, calm and wonderfully giving in her approach to Chinese Medicine. I wouldn't consider seeing anybody else. " Top qualities: Personable, Expert, High Integrity Simms Brooks Bagwell

Biography

Heidi Kao, L Ac, MSTOM

This means that I am a licensed acupuncturist in the state of California as well as the rest of the country and I have a Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. I practice traditional Chinese Medicine, which includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, tui na as well as cupping and moxibustion.

I have a background in Science and graduated from UC Berkeley with a Medical Anthropology degree which I obtained after studying pre-medicine courses and deciding that I wanted to pursue a different approach to healing. I subsequently attended a four year Master’s program for Chinese Medicine, which opened my eyes to the four thousand year old medicine that has more than withstood the test of time. After receiving my license for acupuncture in California, I studied in Shanghai, China, for 7 months, in various hospitals, and specialized in various areas of medicine.

My practice and internship ranged from tui na (Chinese medical massage), and traumatology (emergency medicine), to nephrology (kidneys), gynecology (women’s health), oncology (cancer), as well as pediatrics. I was able to specialize in disorders such as pain management, women’s health, Parkinson’s disease, pediatric disorders and much more.

I am an avid believer in prevention and holistic healing as well as integrated healing. I feel that Western and Eastern Medicine can be complementary healing modalities and should not and cannot be mutually exclusive. I also feel that patients that take an active role in healing are much more responsive to any kind of treatment and advocate this sort of lifestyle in all of my patients. Most importantly, I feel that patients need to be informed and stay informed on all areas of the health and life in general.
