Doctorate
I am currently Doctoral candidate in the Doctoral Program at the American College for Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco. It is a two year program for practitioners with a full time practice who already possess a Masters degree. I just graduated from the program and completed the didactic portion and need to complete the clinical portion of the program. This Doctoral degree is a clinical doctorate, so we need to fulfill clinical hours as well as conduct research. It is a program meant for someone who would like to teach and a chance to specialize as well. I have been focused on Women's Health and Fertility as well as Pain Management and the program is very rigorous with reading, lectures and a lot of clinical exposure.
I have also spent the last year in three different clinics. I started with Dr. Lee Jia Ming in the Sunset of San Francisco who has about 40 years of experience with fertility. Then, I spent 7 months continuously at Pacific Fertility Clinic (www.infertilitydoctor.com), the largest private assisted reproductive technology facility in the Bay Area. I worked under Dr. Carolyn Givens, observing in all her patient interactions ranging from trans-vaginal ultrasounds, to egg retrievals, to myomectomies, to discussing difficult conditions.
Currently, I am working at the Potrero Hill Community Clinic. It is a clinic that serves the uninsured and low income. They have a full staff of MDs, medical assistants, RNs, and dentistry. It is an Integrative Medicine model applied in a community clinic.
I will be at Shanghai University Hospital for 5 weeks in December and the first week of January. We will be in small groups in the hospital, as interns and doing grand rounds. It is socialized medicine in action and we will be seeing and treating close to sixty patients a day. I look forward to returning with much more experience under my belt. In the interim that I am gone, my assistant, Mia Carter, who is also a licensed acupuncturist, will be here as my sub. Please know you are in good hands in that time!
